Mountains & Peaks
In Sri Lanka, there are many mountains and peaks which are highly ecological and rich in biodiversity. Those mountains are mostly located in the central and southern parts of the country. At the same time, those mountains are the birthplaces for many rivers and they are preserved as forests.
The hill country is extremely beautiful and the temperature is very cool throughout the year. Everything is green and lush and the landscape is elevated with layers of grass knolls and jagged waterfalls with dense mountain forest clinging to the upper slopes.
Piduruthalagala is the highest mountain of the island which is 2,524 m (8,281 ft) in height. And Sri Pada which is also called Adam's peak is also an important mountain in Sri Lanka which has even religious importance. It is said that it gives birth to four main rivers in Sri Lanka. They are Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu, and Walawe. Mahaweli is the longest river in the country.
Apart from that Knuckles mountain range, Hantana Mountains, Ritigala, Mihinthale, Namunukula, Hunnasgiriya mountain are some tourists attracted mountains.
It is located in the district of Rathnapura and it is the second highest mountain in Sri Lanka. And it can be considered as the most important mountain in the country since it has a great religious value.
Knuckles mountain range which lies in the Kandy and Mathale administrative districts is very famous for adventurous hiking. There is forest all over the mountain and It is with a huge bio diversity.
The Kandy town is covered with a beautiful range of mountains called, Hanthana. It is very much popular among local and foreign climbers for hiking.

Hiking
As it was mentioned above Piduruthalagala is the highest mountain in the country. This mountain is located in Badulla district.
One can reach the top of the mountain by a vehicle.
Ritigala mountain range, which is in Anuradapura district is bounded with many folk tales.
There is a forest in this mountain also and many rare herbs and medicinal plants can be found here.
This mountain is located in the Southern part of the island.
It is also very much popular for adventurous hiking activities.
