Trincomalee
Trincomalee, also known as Gokanna is another most attractive coastal area in Sri Lanka which is 237km away from Colombo. Trincomalee has a great ancient history that has been mentioned in many ancient resources such as Vayu Purana, Megasthenes writings, Cantino map, Ptolemy's map..etc.It has been a valuable seaport and Hindu pilgrimage center since 400 BCE. Trico natural harbor is one of the best places to control the trade and as a military base.

The Natural harbor in Trincomalee has attracted seafarers, traders, and pilgrims from Europe, Middle East, Africa, China, East Asia, and Australasia since ancient times. This harbor is one of the major reason, that Europeans paid attention to establish their power in Sri Lanka because Trico natural harbor is one of the best places to control the trade and as a hiding military base.
And also Trincomalee has a very close relationship with Hindu culture. So there are many places like s Koneswaram temple, Bhadrakali Amman Temple...etc.

Nilaweli beach, Marble Beach, Kanniya Hot water springs, Pigeon Island...etc are the other most popular places among visitors.

Marble Beach
One of the beautiful beaches situated at about 17km south of Trinco which run by the Sri Lanka Air force.
Fort Frederick
Fort of Triquillimale was built by the Portuguese in 1624 CE. And this fort was dismantled and rebuilt by the Dutch in 1665, renamed Fort Fredrick.
Koneswaram
Koneswaram is a modern classical style, Hindu Temple. The temple lies on a high rocky promontory surrounded on three sides by the sea.
Nilaweli Beach
Another popular beach among both locals and foreigners situated 16 km northwest of the city of Trincomalee
Seruwawila
Seruwawila was built during the reign of King Kavantissa containing the sacred forehead bone of Lord Buddha. It is about 40km from Trincomalee city.
Pigeon Island
Pigeon Island is situated 1 km off the coast of Nilaveli. It contains some of the best remaining coral reefs of Sri Lanka.
