Udawalawa
Udawalawa national park is a fine place to get the real experience of wildlife. It lies in both Samabagamu and Uva provinces. This national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawa reservoir. The reserve covers 30,821 hectares of land area and was established on 30 June 1972. By now Udawalawa is an important habitat for birds and Sri Lankan elephants. It is a popular tourist destination and the third most visited park in the country.
This park posses a variety of fauna and flora. It is a habitat for mainly Sri Lankan animals. Other than that there are Sri Lankan leopards, Sri Lankan bears, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo also. At the same time, many species of birds make Udawalawa park their home. It is considered as a good birdwatching site in Sri Lanka. Jungle- Fowl who is the national bird in the country can be seen in this park. Sri Lanka spurfowl, red-faced malkoha, Sri Lanka grey hornbill, brown-capped babbler can be sen here.
